Job description
About The Role and Team
Quantum Motion is a fast-growing quantum computing scale-up based in London founded by internationally renowned researchers from UCL and Oxford University with over 40 years’ experience in developing qubits and quantum computing architectures. Bringing together state-of-the-art cryogenic facilities and an outstanding interdisciplinary team, we are developing quantum processors based on industrial-grade silicon chips, with the potential to radically transform computing power in areas such as materials modelling, medicine, artificial intelligence and more.
Our Team
Since 2021 our team has been listed every year in the “Top 100 Startups worth watching” in the EE Times, and our technology breakthroughs have been featured in The Telegraph, BBC and the New Statesman. Our founders are internationally renowned researchers from UCL and Oxford University who have pioneered the development of qubits and quantum computing architectures. Our chairman is the co-founder of Cadence and Synopsys, the two leading companies in the area of Electronic Design Automation. We’re backed by a team of top-tier investors, and we have recently closed our Series C funding of $160 million.
We bring together the brightest quantum engineers, integrated circuit (IC) engineers, quantum computing theoreticians and software engineers to create a unique, world-leading team, working together closely to maximise our combined expertise. Our collaborative and interdisciplinary culture is an ideal fit for anyone who thrives in a cutting-edge research and development environment focused on tackling big challenges and contributing to the development of scalable quantum computers based on silicon technology.
Our team of 100+ is based in Oxford and London, with a centre of mass in our Islington lab.
Functions of the Role
As Director of Systems Delivery, you will build and lead the function responsible for the complete lifecycle of Quantum Motion’s full-stack silicon quantum systems, from initial programme planning, build, and integration through commissioning, acceptance testing, and handover.
You will drive cross-functional alignment across hardware, software, systems integration, and operations. Key priorities include establishing delivery playbooks, acceptance protocols, and customer site infrastructure readiness, while synchronising complex silicon bring-up with agile software developments.
We are seeking a pragmatic leader with proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams to deploy first-of-a-kind, deep-tech systems into field environments. Direct hardware experience in silicon, semiconductor, or advanced physical instrumentation is mandatory; you must understand physical build constraints, microelectronics/systems integration, and environmental facility requirements.
Full-Stack System Execution: Lead the Systems Delivery capability to execute internal full-stack system deployments, bridging physical hardware with full-stack software from assembly through customer handover.
Cross-Functional Alignment: Coordinate across hardware, software, product, and operations teams to align physical hardware build schedules with software release cycles, managing dependency interfaces and trade-offs.
Site Infrastructure Readiness: Oversee internal and customer site infrastructure preparation to ensure physical environments are ready for deployment.
Acceptance Testing & Governance: Implement delivery schedules, risk management, and formal acceptance testing protocols.
Service & Operational Handoff: Establish post-installation support frameworks, handovers, and field engineering processes to guarantee long-term operational uptime.
Process Standardisation: Build scalable playbooks, quality standards, and repeatable processes for integration, validation, and operational readiness.
Supply Chain Management: Manage technical hardware procurement, key vendor relationships, and supplier performance supporting delivery timelines.
Commercial Scoping Support: Provide technical scoping, feasibility input, and operational planning for commercial proposals while fostering team accountability.
Experience - Essentials
Must have proven experience managing physical hardware systems (e.g., quantum, semiconductor, aerospace, or advanced scientific instrumentation) with a realistic understanding of physical build constraints and lead times.
Demonstrated background managing hardware-software integration, physical systems validation, and site-installation constraints.
Experience building, managing, and mentoring hardware, systems integration, or field delivery teams.
Track record of taking first-of-a-kind physical hardware platforms from prototype to repeatable deployment models.
Hands-on experience managing facility readiness and running structured customer acceptance protocols.
Strong project management expertise tracking HW/SW critical paths, project budgets, risk registers, and executive reporting.
Direct experience overseeing technical vendors, supplier selection, and component procurement.
Strong communication skills with key stakeholders, including executive, technical, and customer audiences. Willingness and eligibility to travel internationally to customer sites as required.
Experience - Desirable
Direct technical background in quantum computing systems, cryogenic systems, silicon platforms, or HPC architectures.
Experience establishing post-delivery field support, service handoffs, or customer support operations for complex hardware.
Experience scaling system assembly and delivery operations within a deep-tech environment. Experience supporting hardware/software technical scoping for commercial proposals.
Benefits
Be part of a creative, world-leading team
Competitive salary and share options scheme
Contributory pension scheme
Group private medical insurance scheme
Life Assurance
Cycle-to-work Scheme
